Our plan is to traverse 10 countries on all the back roads with the help of Tracks 4 Africa, our GPS’, good old fashioned maps and sheer instinct. We are planning on using goat and cattle tracks, fi re breaks and any other little back roads that we encounter along the way. In order to do this we will need to be totally self-suffi cient and responsible as we will taking no back-up vehicles al ong and we alone will provide back-up for one another. You need absolute trust in your fellow riders, not only in their decision-making abilities but also in their riding skills. Knowing Thomas, one of our esteemed testers here at SuperBike, I’m convinced he is going to be getting us into situations that I don’t necessarily want to be in, but hey, what started out as a few friends shooting their mouths off around a pub table one night has now become a reality.
The 10 countries we are planning on travelling to are Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Lesotho and Swaziland.
The plan is that we will do one country per month, giving ourselves 7 days per country, with our fi rst trip including a ride to McCarthys Rest border crossing, after which we will head up through Botswana and fi nally we will move on to Zimbabwe where we will leave our bikes after the first week.
